Mossy Motors Celebrates 100 Years of GMC

While new GMC models like the Acadia, Sierra 2500HD, and Terrain don't show their age, the American automaker is actually 100 this year! We here at Mossy Motors can hardly believe it either. GMC is a main staple in the American automotive market, which is why we'd like to take a moment to go over some of the reasons why the brand is still going strong one full century after its formation.
It all starts in 1912. That's the year when General Motors bought the Rapid Motor Vehicle Co., and then proceeded to rename it the General Motor truck Company. From there on, the company was in the best of hands, producing some of the most reliable vehicles on the road throughout the years. Of course, the American automaker's offerings weren't limited to the trucks, crossovers, and SUVs that we know today...
For instance, most might not know that GMC used to produce motor homes. These vehicles weren't just popular with consumers either. They were featured in a wide range of films, including Stripes and Twister. Later on, the GMC appeal even managed to stretch into the realm of television, wear pro-baseball player Kenny Powers of Eastbound and Down bragged about receiving "Denali's on the reg;" a reference to the GMC Yukon.
Of course, today we all know GMC for making dependable trucks like the Sierra 1500. In 2011 alone, the Sierra managed to outsell the closest competition by more than 40,000 model, making it among the fastest growing vehicle brands in the United States. Some even claim that if GMC were to split from GM, they would be among the ten biggest stand-alone automakers in the world.
It goes without saying that everyone here at 1331 South Broad Street New Orleans, LA 70125 is incredibly proud to serve such a hardworking brand.
